Have you kept your New Year’s resolution so far? I ask because it’s been about 18 hours and I myself have usually lapsed by then.

Like most people, I like the idea of New Years resolutions but I find that they seldom stick.

My past is littered with the pieces of broken resolutions: The “I will’s” effortlessly morphing into “I should’s”, transformed into “I would but’s” and then subsequently discarded.

I’m thinking of trying something different this year. I’ve been thinking that maybe it’s beneficial to choose a word to focus on for the year and aim to have your choices and days reflect that instead. In the end, it’s the summation of the days, the culmination of choices, that matters, no?

And then, on December 31, 2022, I can ask myself: “did you, all things considered, ____ this year?” or “did you, overall, attempt _____?”

Maybe that’s a better way to measure our days and, by extension, measure our lives.

I think my themes for 2022 are “try” and “peace”.

I’ll do the first by saying “yes” more and by choosing risk. I’ll do it by actually hitting “publish” instead of just keeping her another article idea in my drafts.

And as for the second, I’ll do it by doing more of what makes me happy.

The first will make the second happen.

What will your word be?
